CT Cooperative of Home Educators East of the River
WHO & WHAT IS CT-C.H.E.E.R.?
CT-C.H.E.E.R. is the acronym standing for “Connecticut Cooperative of Home Educators East of the River.” It is an independent, unaffiliated, member-driven online-based group that includes many homeschool families from many towns, simply networking and disseminating homeschool information. Our group is not-for-profit, and we are not run by a Board of Directors; we have three co-founders who started the group by merging other groups in the area. We are motivated by our common, shared vision of helping other homeschoolers, and the desire to work together harmoniously, to achieve that goal. We bring to the group many years of parenting, as well as homeschool experience.
Our primary mission is to focus on disseminating homeschool information and support to current and prospective homeschool families that reside east of the CT river. We provide the opportunity to bring people together to expand our families' horizons, in a collaborative, informal manner. We are a group of people with diverse homeschool philosophies & experience, but with a common vision: volunteers who are supporting one another, sharing information, and reaching out to new homeschoolers as a labor of love and understanding of a new homeschooler's process.
WHAT DOES MEMBERSHIP GET YOU?
Membership is for current homeschoolers who reside east of the CT river. That's our "service area". Membership ties you into our events & support services. You will receive a membership card for service and product educator discounts (select stores and museums), join our yahoogroup, and to connect with other families who are all within an hour or so of each other. That is one of the most unique features we have as an area support group; a focus on eastern CT.
WHAT COMMUNITY EVENTS ARE THERE ?
Our group has a busy schedule of events all year long; and a sampling of what we do for learning and fun includes events that are both social events and educational events. Your family's opportunities will will include opportunities such as: Support & Info Nights, Parents' Night Out, Park Days, Beach Days, Book Swaps & Sales, Family Business Ads, Scouting, Parks & Recreation, Library Events, Science Fairs, Geography Fairs, Valentine's Potluck Party, Pinewood Derby, 4-H Clubs, rollerskating, swimming, ice skating, Game Days, Craft Days, Skiing, gymnastics, Book Discussion Groups, Gym Days, lots of field trips, classes and workshops, co-ops, and more. The *myth* of homeschoolers being unsocialized is just that; in fact we are an extremely social, active bunch who enjoy the planet as our playground while we're learning !
